IN MEMORY OF OUR BELOVED SHAMAN
|
|
We lost our beloved Shaman on July 26, 2005 due to kidney failure. He was just six years old. Words cannot convey the emptiness he has left in our life.

| | Schipperke is the name of a type of dog found mostly in
Belgium. They were bred specifically as barge dogs used to keep control
of vermin on the Belgian river barges. The name means "Little
Skipper". They are very similar to the Keeshond that was bred in Holland
for the same purpose. The Schipperke is about half the size of a Keeshond, usually jet black, and have no tail. The breed is very sure footed on a
boat, and also very protective of masters and property. The breed is also known
as "Belgian Boat Dog". | | We purchased a Schipperke, as we thought that it's size and
breeding would be perfect for our lifestyle, aboard our sailboat, and traveling
in our motor home. | | After we purchased our Schipperke, we started to wonder what to call
him. As a bit of a joke, it was suggested that since he was a boat dog, why not
name him after our sailboat, Shaman One. Hence, Shaman is the name we chose for
our boat dog. | | In his first year of life he had already traveled
from the Alaska Panhandle, down as far as Manzanillo, Mexico. He is a great
little companion, and sometimes too smart for his/our own good. |
