FRIENDS IN WAIMATE, NEW ZEALAND

The flight to Christchurch, New Zealand took almost 24 hours traveling time flying by way of Hawaii, Sydney, Australia and finally Christchurch.  The flight was quite uneventful, only long and tiring.  I was met at the Christchurch Airport by long time friends, my "Kiwi Mom" and Ernie.  My friends were kind enough to get a motel room for my first night in New Zealand knowing that I would probably be tired as well as giving them a good night of rest before driving to Waimate.  On our trip heading south to Waimate we stopped in Ashburton to visit another long time friend of mine (Kiwi mom's granddaughter Claire and great granddaughter Madeleine.)  It was like coming home again.  I last visited New Zealand about thirteen years ago so it was wonderful to see my friends (extended family) again.  We shed a few tears and swapped many stories.

After a week of reminiscing of days gone by, the time came for me to say farewell to my wonderful friends and continue making my way to Whangarei on the North Island of New Zealand where Barbara and Jerry were waiting for me.  Barbara was there to pick me up from the Whangarei Airport.  Jerry was at the boat seeing to the work that needed to be completed before we set sail.  The boat was lifted out of the water only a couple of hours before I arrived in Whangarei.  The boat had been tied up to pilings at the Whangarei Town Basin for the past year while Barbara returned to Canada for an extended time at home.  The Rosa Nutkana was in desperate need of some TLC.  After being unattended for such a long time she needed a thorough cleaning from stem to stern, inside and outside.
