Friends From Around the World

Something that always seems to happen when you are traveling or sailing, is that you meet a lot of new people. This has been the case in our experience. It seems that when you pursue an activity that you enjoy, you meet people with similar interests. We have met a lot of people in our travels on the road, especially in Mexico and also while on our boat or just on the docks. Peter and Marie, one couple that we met at Playa Las Glorias, invited us to travel with them to Australia. We still get together regularly, and look forward to more trips together in in the future. Many of the people that we have met on the road have become good friends with whom we are in contact with often.

Kathy & Serge

Kathy and Serge Lavoie, aboard their boat Raison de Etre (Reason For Life). They sail for 6 or 8 months at a time, throughout the North &South Pacific, come back to the U.S. to work and make money, then head out on the next leg of their journey. Their web site & photos can be found at Raison de Etre.

As you will notice, most of the traveling people fall into about the same age group as us - late forties, early fifties. There seems to be no recently retired people. Most people that live this sort of life style of travel & adventure have been traveling for many years. The line "when I retire" is a myth.  Most people who regularly R.V., travel, and sail, seem to have started at an early age, usually in their forties. By the time they do retire, the habit of R.V.ing and traveling is in their blood.
See Will's article in one of the issues of the R.V. times, an R.V.ing magazine out of the Fraser Valley.  The moral of this story is: if you have a retirement dream, start now, or it just is not going to happen. To see the actual article go to RV Times
