| | In the spring of 2001
we went for a six week trip that took us up and down the east coast of Australia.
The other
couple in the pictures with us are Peter and Marie. Marie worked for Air Canada, and was able to get us
all standby tickets which introduced us to the world of "standby"
travel. Time and patience is critical for this type of travel & not suitable
for the impatient, uptight sort of people. It was an adventure in itself -
we loved it. Thank you Marie!! This helped greatly with the total cost of the trip.
Hopefully we will be making more trips with Peter and Marie in the future. We traveled from about 200
kilometers south of Sydney, to as far north as Brisbane. We spent time in the
Blue Mountains, the Hunter Valley, Surfers Paradise, and Byron Bay, among others.
While we were in Australia we "just had to scout" for suitable anchorages for our
eventual return in our own sailboat. | | A
lot of time was spent in the sunshine on the endless miles of beautiful white sand beaches, many times with not another person in sight.
And of course, some time had to be spent sampling the wines at the
wineries in the Hunter Valley. This was a great time & definitely
a country worth revisiting whether by boat or plane!

A
couple of the most recognizable sights in Australia - The Sydney Opera House
|

Sydney Harbour Bridge. There is also a large tunnel under the
harbour, that takes all the traffic that
the bridge cannot handle.

Our
friend Marie enjoying a deserted beach, one of many deserted beaches on the east
coast
|

The wallabies & kangaroos where also seen everywhere.
|
|

Koalas were also seen in a number of places.
|

Koalas are hard to spot in the trees, but
we did manage to get a
few photos, although this one was professionally done.

Enjoying
a "Beverage" in a colonial house converted to a restaurant, south of
Sydney.

Marie and Marilyn cooling down in a waterfall in the Blue
Mountains.

Dolphin
watching, and getting wet in the process.
|

Some more of the beautiful beaches.

|

Just another beach? Awesome!
